Friday, March 07, 2003

By Ed Bouchette, Post-Gazette Sports Writer

Tunch Ilkin and Leo Wisniewski will debut their NFL-sponsored video tape series, Inside the Game of Football, tomorrow with a clinc from 9-11:30 a.m. at the UPMC Sports Performance Complex.

The clinic features Steelers coaches Mike Mularkey and Tim Lewis, tight end Mark Bruener, Ilkin and others. The cost is $5, and each participant will receive a video. The clinic is open to high school players, coaches and parents.

The eight-video football instructional series was produced by The Athletic Training Network, located at the UPMC complex, with a grant from the NFL and its players association to promote youth football. The six-employee business was founded by Wisneiwski, a former Fox Chapel, Penn State and NFL lineman. Ilkin, a former Steelers Pro Bowl tackle and one of their broadcasters, is vice president of the company.

Tomorrow's clinic begins a 10-city spring tour to market the videos, which have instruction for every position in football and are aimed toward youth. The number to call is 412-432-3870.

NOTES -- Quarterback Gus Frerotte (Bengals) and offensive tackle Roman Oben (Buccaneers) will visit the Steelers today. ... The Steelers signed WR Dallas Davis and sent him to play in NFL Europe. He was in their training camp last summer.
