Free firearms safety course for women in Elizabeth Township

Wednesday, November 20, 2002

By Linda Wilson Fuoco, Post-Gazette Staff Writer

A free firearms safety course for women will be held Saturday in Elizabeth Township. The eight-hour course is designed for women who have little or no firearms experience.

The course is offered by Shield Police/Security Training, Inc. The company is a Pennsylvania state-certified lethal-weapons training school.

Though the company is located in Dormont, it uses the outdoor firing range operated by the Twin Rivers Council of Governments.

The company's usual clients include hospitals, security firms, private corporations and law enforcement agencies.

Topics covered include justification and use of force, how to safely store guns at home and proper procedures for safely carrying guns.

The course includes four hours of classroom instruction and four hours of shooting on the firing range.

Women who want to attend the class must be at least 21 years old, and only one woman per family can attend.

To register, call 412-531-0333.
