Kmart Corp. is looking at a site at 202 Penn Circle West, a building now home to the Pittsburgh Police Bureau's investigations branch. Whole Foods Market Inc. is considering a site at 5880 Centre Ave.

If developers can sign Whole Foods to a lease, they would like to purchase a series of contiguous lots, leaving them with several blocks of land that connect to Shadyside via the Highland Avenue bridge. The plan is to fill those blocks with more shops.
