![]() Kofi Annan speech here to air live Tuesday, October 21, 2003 By Rob Owen and Adrian McCoy, Post-Gazette Staff Writers
Carnegie Mellon University's WRCT-FM (88.3) and cable channel PCNC will carry U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan's speech live today from Soldiers & Sailors Hall in Oakland. Annan will speak on cooperation between the United Nations and the United States in pursuing global security.
On PCNC, coverage will run from 2:50 to 3:10 p.m. and will be re-telecast at 6:30 tonight.
On WRCT, coverage begins at 2:30 p.m. and also will be streamed live on the station's Web site, www.wrct.org.
Annan is in Pittsburgh today to deliver the H.J. Heinz Co. Foundation Distinguished Lecture at the University of Pittsburgh. Because the invitation-only event isn't open to the public, WRCT management decided to broadcast Annan's speech in order to bring it to a larger audience.
Annan will be given an honorary doctorate in Public and International Affairs by the University of Pittsburgh and the Heinz Humanitarian Award from H.J. Heinz Co. for the United Nations' work in fighting world hunger.
