'EastEnders' shelved

In a blow to fans of British drama, BBC America has ceased showing the long-running soap "EastEnders." The last episode aired Sept. 27.

A statement from the network said the series "continued to under-perform compared with the rest of our schedule. As with all U.S. basic cable networks, our programs have to attract ratings and advertisers to maintain their position in the schedule."

'Hotel' vacant

Fox's "Paradise Hotel" ended its summer run Wednesday night, but contestant Holly Pastor of Greensburg, identified by Fox as a 22-year-old in retail sales, did not win.

Instead, 21-year-old waitress Charla Pihlstrom and 23-year-old clothing store manager Keith Cuda split the $500,000 grand prize. Cuda chose to share his winnings with his roommate, Tara Gerard, but Charla did not share her portion with her roommate, Dave Kerpen.

Local women on 'Makeover'

TLC's "A Makeover Story" will feature two local women in an episode to be telecast at 12:30 p.m. Thursday.

Cynthia Jackson and Jamie Kaecher met while living in a Washington County homeless shelter and applied to be on the show and get makeovers to coincide with Jackson's 21st birthday in April.

WTAE on WPTT

Beginning Monday, WTAE-TV's 5 to 7 a.m. morning news will be simulcast on radio station WPTT (1360 AM) before the start of "The Jerry Bowyer Show" at 7 a.m.

WPTT program director John Poister said the Channel 4 simulcast will replace the last hour of syndicated program "The George Norry Show" and "The Doug Stephan Show."
