![]() Friedman film nominated for an Emmy Monday, August 11, 2003 By Barbara Vancheri, Post-Gazette Staff Writer
Filmmaker Adam Friedman, the son of the late newswoman Marie Torre, has been nominated for his first national Emmy for an A&E biography of John Travolta. The two-hour special, which Friedman directed and executive-produced, aired in January.
Friedman and his collaborators are competing in the "Outstanding Nonfiction Series (Traditional)" category against episodes of "American Masters," "Behind the Music," "The E! True Hollywood Story" and "Inside the Actors Studio." That Emmy will be given out Sept. 13 at the Shrine Auditorium, in advance of the Sept. 21 Emmy telecast.
At 8 p.m. tomorrow, A&E will air Friedman's new one-hour biography of Kevin Costner. It includes clips from Costner's movie "Open Range," arriving in theaters Friday, along with insights from his three children and fiancee.
