TV Notes: WQED will tape new specials at Benedum Center concerts

Saturday, May 10, 2003

By Rob Owen, Post-Gazette TV Editor

WQED's latest music specials tape next week at the Benedum Center. "American Soundtrack: Rock & Roll 50" tapes Tuesday at 7 p.m., featuring Jerry Lee Lewis, Bo Diddley and the Debby Hastings Band, Darlene Love, and The Heartbeats.

"Timeless Music" tapes Wednesday at 7 p.m. and will feature the reunion of Tony Orlando and Dawn (Telma Hopkins, Joyce Vincent Wilson) along with Dionne Warwick, the 5th Dimension and The Association.

Tickets for both shows are still available and can be purchased for $75 a pair by calling 412-622-1339.

"Rock & Roll 50" will air nationally on PBS in December and "Timeless Music" will air on PBS in March. Both programs are expected to air sooner on WQED.

FCI touts science

Family Communications Inc., the company founded by the late Fred Rogers, unveils a new project Tuesday at PNC Park. A series of 30-second video clips showing the science behind baseball will play on the big screen during Pirates games.

These "Explanatoids" are part of FCI's Girls, Math & Science Partnership, an initiative to stress the role girls/women play in careers of the future. The University of Pittsburgh Learning Research and Development Center and the Carnegie Mellon University School of Design are partners with FCI.

Doppelgangers unite!

Stacey Allemeier, a 2001 graduate of Hempfield Area High School, is a Britney Spears doppelganger finalist in The WB's "The Celebrity Look-Alike Show," a special airing Friday at 8 p.m. on WCWB.
