'SOPRANOS' HUNG UP
HBO has suspended production of "The Sopranos" fifth season, which was scheduled to begin on March 24, as a result of the salary dispute with star James Gandolfini. According to Variety, HBO's final offer to Gandolfini was $11 million for a 13-episode fifth season. The Emmy winner wants $27 million.
WTAE WINS AWARD
Channel 4 won first place in the spot news division of the 2003 National Headliner Awards for its coverage of the Quecreek mine rescue last summer.
Among national networks, NBC News won first place for coverage of a major news event with "Miracle at the Mine with Stone Phillips."
Headliner Awards have been handed out since 1935 to recognize "journalistic merit in the communications industry."
