Raising the curtain

And speaking of Potter ... At 8 p.m. Monday, WQED will air "Discovering the Real World of Harry Potter," an hour-long documentary about the real-life sources for the books. The show visits locations used in the movie and focuses on the places, people, historical and religious practices that inspired author Rowling. The writer and others are interviewed, too.

Touched by a Pittsburgher

Pittsburgh native Zachary Quinto will appear on "Touched By an Angel" tonight at 9 on CBS. He plays a key role in the episode called "When Sunny Gets Blue," about a young man named Mike who always wondered why his father left him.

The character of Gloria, played by Valerie Bertinelli, is working in a record shop when she discovers a jazz record with Mike's father on the cover. She and the angels attempt to reunite the family.

Quinto, the son of Margo Quinto of Green Tree, is a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University who now lives in Los Angeles. Pittsburgh audiences may remember him from a variety of performances. Once a member of the CLO Mini-Stars, he played the son of Larry John Meyers and Helena Ruoti in City Theatre's production of "Side Man" in November 2000.

Special "Ed"

NBC will broadcast an original episode of the comedy-drama "Ed" Monday at 10 p.m. It's a last-minute change that's likely not reflected in many printed television listings.

"Ed" has not been drawing as many viewers as its Wednesday night companion series ("The West Wing," "Law & Order"), and NBC likely wants to see how it performs in another time slot.
