TV Notes: R&B tribute to air on WQED

James Brown, Dionne Warwick, The Temptations, The Isley Brothers, Percy Sledge, The Miracles and Ben E. King, who reunites with The Drifters, will all be part of the lineup for WQED's latest music special, "R&B 40," which tapes Nov. 26 and 27 at Heinz Hall.

T.J. Lubinsky, WQED executive producer of fund-raising/programming, also will tape another show for airing on PBS at Heinz Hall on Nov. 27. "Vocal Group Gospel" will feature the Dixie Hummingbirds, the Drifters and others.

During the Heinz Hall tapings, Lubinsky will also film introductions for a third program, the previously taped " '70s Soul Jam," which includes performances by the Stylistics, Cuba Gooding Sr. and the Main Ingredient and the Delfonics.

Channel surfing

An episode of "Malcolm in the Middle" will get the coveted post-Super Bowl time slot in February, according to the New York Daily News. ... ABC has pulled its new Friday newsmagazine "America.01" from the schedule after just two broadcasts ... Billy Bob Thornton will host this weekend's "Saturday Night Live" with musical guest Creed.
