TV Note: 'Producers' rescheduled

Saturday, August 18, 2001

By Rob Owen, Post-Gazette TV Editor

During pledge periods, the mantra at WQED is "show me the money."

That's the explanation for the station's decision to pull Wednesday night's "Great Performances" program about recording the soundtrack to the hit Broadway show "The Producers."

WQED pledge producer T.J. Lubinsky said the heavily promoted program was yanked off the schedule after it failed to generate pledges when it aired on stations in other cities. Because WQED received about 28 complaints from viewers, Lubinsky said the show has been rescheduled for tonight at 8 with a challenge to viewers to "do the right thing" and pledge now that the station "has done our part" and put the show on the air.

Huh? Wouldn't the right thing have been to air the program when it was originally scheduled or to have gotten the word out in advance about the change?
