TV Note: Doherty no longer 'Charmed'

Tuesday, May 15, 2001

By Rob Owen, Post-Gazette TV Editor

The power of three has set her free. Shannen Doherty will not be on The WB's "Charmed" when the series returns in the fall.

USA Today reports Doherty reprised her difficult actress reputation that got her bounced from "Beverly Hills, 90210" several years ago, but executive producer Aaron Spelling indicated Doherty left on her own, saying, "we didn't want to hold her back from what she wanted to do."

LEAD FOR "B5" MOVIE: Sci-Fi Channel announced Dylan Neal ("Hyperion Bay," Deputy Doug on "Dawson's Creek") will have the lead in the cable TV movie "Babylon 5: Legend of the Rangers," the pilot for a potential series.

Andreas Katsulas, who played G'Kar on "Babylon 5," also will make an appearance.

LOCAL NOTES: WQED will tape its "Rock, Rhythm and Doo Wop" show at the Benedum Center tonight and tomorrow night for airing in August, but Webcam snapshots will be available online at www.wqed.org beginning tonight and tomorrow at 9 p.m. during the taping. ... Local writer Mike Seate, author of the book "Two Wheels and Two Reels: A History of Biker Movies," will be featured tonight at 7 on Speedvision's "Bike Week" program.

WBGN SPECIAL: Low-power station WBGN (Channel 59) will broadcast the HBO special "What About Your Friends" tomorrow at 10 p.m. and again May 22 at 10 p.m. The program explores life for three girls growing up in urban America as they prepare to graduate from high school. A weekly series of the same title will begin airing on the station in September.
