TV Note: Mister Roboto

Tuesday, April 03, 2001

By Rob Owen, Post-Gazette TV Editor

Cable channel TLC delves further into mechanical competition with "Robotica," a seven-part series premiering tomorrow at 9 p.m. Robots will be constructed to compete in a series of competitions testing speed, strength and strategy.

Carnegie Mellon University students Dan Haeg and Zach Menegakis built a robot called Hamerschlag that will compete during the episode airing April 18.

"BUFFY" GETS ANIMATED: In the great tradition of "Happy Days" and "The Brady Bunch," Fox Family Channel announced "Buffy the Vampire Slayer The Animated Series" will be put into development with "Buffy" creator Joss Whedon at the helm. The half-hour series will be set back when Buffy and her friends were in high school.

CHANNEL SURFING: Daily Variety reports Valerie Bertinelli will join the cast of CBS's "Touched By an Angel" later this month as a regular angel character. Not coincidentally, the network is still negotiating with Roma Downey about returning to the show next season ... The WB's "Felicity" returns with six new episodes beginning at 9 p.m. April 18 on WCWB ... CBS has canceled its low-rated cop drama "Big Apple"... Low-power station WBGN will broadcast four old Hallmark Hall of Fame movies this year, beginning with "To Dance With Olivia" at 9 p.m. April 10. The sequel to that film aired earlier this month on CBS.
