PERKINS IN TOWN: "Good Morning America" weathercaster Tony Perkins will broadcast live from Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens in Oakland today from 7 to 9 a.m.

Perkins will highlight Pittsburgh's Day of Caring, a volunteer event. In addition to interviews with volunteers and University of Pittsburgh chancellor Mark A. Nordenberg, "GMA" will feature Cheryl Capezzuti's puppets and a performance by Chatham Baroque.


MDA TELETHON RESULTS: The annual "Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon" brought in a record-breaking $54.6 million nationally to fight muscular dystrophy. Last year's pledge total reached $53.1 million.

Locally, WPXI's efforts during the telethon generated $754,260 in pledges, up from last year's total of $739,408. This year marked host Bill Cardille's 30th telethon, and the station beat its goal of raising $740,000 with an hour left in the telecast
