Channel 53 reporter Lisa Beatty will leave the station Sept. 15, moving to California with her boyfriend, who will enter a three-year advanced residency in veterinary critical care at the University of California, Davis.
"It was a tough choice," Beatty said. "I'm leaving a job I love for purely personal reasons, making my relationship my No. 1 priority."
Beatty, a Butler native, praised WPGH executives, particularly news director Tom Burke, for supporting her decision. She hopes to get work with a TV station in California, but has just begun the job search process.
Beatty has been at WPGH for two years. She joined the station from WJAC in Johnstown, where she was a weekday anchor.
Channel 53 anchor Sheila Hyland is pregnant and due to give birth in February (a sweeps month!). This will be her second child (daughter Jacqueline turns 4 in October). By the time Hyland goes on maternity leave, weekend anchor Katie Sesny should be back from her own maternity leave, which is expected to begin in September.
The stork is also due at KDKA-TV. Jennifer Antkowiak, noon and 5 p.m. anchor, is pregnant with her third child. She's due in late January -- another sweeps baby!
