Stuart Powell, Pittsburgh-based regional director for WPGH, WCWB and several other stations owned by Sinclair Broadcasting, is no longer with the local stations or their corporate owner.
WPGH/WCWB general manager Michael Norten, who worked under Powell, would not confirm the manner of Powell's departure, saying only, "He is no longer employed by Sinclair."
Dick Singer will replace Powell. Singer comes to Pittsburgh from WAMI-TV in Miami, Fla., where he worked as vice president of national sales.
Powell joined WPGH/WCWB in 1997 and served as general manager and regional director until Norten was brought in as GM this summer.
Under Powell's watch the station's 10 p.m. news expanded to an hour and recruited Sheila Hyland as a primary anchor. Powell also expanded WPGH's local programming with coverage of events like the Three Rivers Regatta. He could not be reached for comment.
