Steelers Steelers rank 14th in value

Wednesday, September 06, 2000

The Associated Press

The Steelers are the NFL's 14th-most-valuable franchise with an estimated value of $414 million, according to Forbes magazine's annual survey of franchise values.

The team's value is slightly below the league average of $423 million.

The Steelers, who generate little income from marketing agreements or luxury seating, are second from the bottom in annual revenue at $96.4 million, lower than any team except Cincinnati. The Bengals' estimated revenues of $91.9 million are about half that of the Washington Redskins.

The Steelers' debt, including more than $100 million owed for the construction of their new stadium, is estimated at 27 percent of the franchise's value. Among the franchises ranking ahead of the Steelers in value, as estimated by Forbes, are the Redskins, $741 million; the Dallas Cowboys, second at $713 million; and all five of the Steelers' AFC Central rivals.
