Penn State ran its record to 4-0 with an easy 96-50 victory at Fairfield University last night. It was the first night of action for many of the districts teams.
Kelly Mazzante scored 25 points for the Lady lions and Jessica Brungo, a North Allegheny High School graduated, added 17 points and nine rebounds. Tanisha Wright of West Mifflin scored 10 points for Penn State and Steel Valley graduate Jess Strom handed out seven assists.
Schrene Isidora scored 23 points for Fairfield and Cathy Dash had 11.

California 80, St. Vincent 46: Sara McKinney scored 19 points and teammate Becky Siembak scored 15 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to lead California (Pa.). California took a commanding 44-19 lead in the first half, connecting on 19 of 29 field-goal attempts.
Westminster 65, Alfred 53: Jennifer Petures scored 16 points and Samor Himes scored 11 points and had 13 rebounds in leading Westminster to victory. Eric Tallo added 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Clarion 102, La Roche 36: Clarion took a 52-21 lead at the half and cruised to the home-court victory. Clarion had five players in double figures led by Heather Cigich with 20 points and 14 rebounds. Lisa Henderson scored 14 points for La Roche.
Edinboro 95, West Virginia Tech 68: Lachelle Crawl scored 25 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in leading Edinboro. Krystal Henson and Maria DiVecchio each scored 14 for the Scots. Armakia Mariner scored 17 points for West Virginia Tech.
Pitt-Greensburg 96, Russell Sage 30: Pitt-Greensburg scored 48 points in each half in cruising to the home-court victory. Fourteen of the 15 players who saw action for the winners scored with Torey Auld tossing in 15 points. Jess Phillippi added 12 points and Jess Porter 11. Russell Sage connected on just 19.6 percent of its shots.
Gannon 76, Shepherd 58: Despite being outrebounded, 44-37, Gannon managed the home-court victory. Kelly Irwin led Gannon with 14 points and Tiffany Jones and Katie Harms each added 10.
Caldwell 73, Mercyhurst 70: Mercyhurst outscored Caldwell, 44-42, in the second half but it wasn't enough. Krista Ross scored 18 points and Katie Lorincz added 14 points and handed out 11 assists for Mercyhurst. Alycia Stevens scored 20 points for Caldwell.
Calvin 75, Point Park 58: Point Park fell behind by 22 points at the half and couldn't recover. Lynn Newson scored 11 points for Point Park. Tricia Dyk had 15 points for Calvin.
Concordia-Moorehead 79, Geneva 73: Geneva made just 39.7 percent of its shots in the debut of Coach Ron Galbreath. Jen Rawding scored 17 points for Geneva and Chrissy Valentine added 15. Jamie Visness scored 23 for Concordia-Moorhead.
Bellarmine 92, Pitt-Johnson 75: Bellarmine outscored Pitt-Johnson, 54-39, in the second half to gain the victory. Helen Young had 21 points and grabbed 16 rebounds for Pitt-Johnstown. Lyndsey Neal scored 21 points for Bellarmine.
Carnegie Mellon 70, Denison 61: Carissa Sain scored 24 points and Erin Brady added 11 in leading Carnegie Mellon to victory. The Tartans outrebounded Denison, 49-34.
