NEWS & NOTES

Kelley Washington, Tennessee's leading WR last season, returned to practice yesterday after missing the Volunteers' first two games because of a sprained knee. He will play Saturday against No. 10 Florida. Washington hasn't practiced the past four weeks to allow time for his right knee to heal.

Nebraska offensive lineman Richie Incognito will sit out the first half of the Iowa State game Sept. 28 for getting ejected in the Penn State game for fighting. Incognito, the No. 18 Cornhuskers' LT, and Penn State DE Jeremiah Davis were kicked out of Saturday's game in the third quarter for fighting after the Nittany Lions returned an interception for a touchdown. Big 12 Conference supervisor of officials Tim Millis received the officials' report yesterday and said that under NCAA rules, a one-game suspension is required. Alabama (2-1) is seeking restoration of the six scholarships and bowl eligibility. The Infractions Committee citef

In addition to losing Long and Knotts for Saturday's game against Division I-AA Montana State, the Cougars will be without starting LT Josh Parrish, who is expected miss at least six weeks because of a broken leg.
