Police charge drug dealer with rape

Wednesday, September 19, 2001

By M. Ferguson Tinsley, Post-Gazette Staff Writer

A Greenfield man known to police in the late 1970s as a drug ring operative was arrested Sunday after a teen-age girl told them he had raped her.

Anthony "Tony" Faiello, 45, of Haldane Street, was arrested at 12:05 p.m. for rape, sexual assault, unlawful restraint and corruption of a minor in connection with the attack that the girl said occurred Sept. 7.

Released from the Allegheny County Jail on $25,000 bond, Faiello is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing before Chief City Magistrate William Simmons at 1 p.m. Oct. 3.

In a criminal complaint, police accused Faiello of plying the girl with alcoholic drinks. Once the girl became drowsy and lay on a bed, Faiello followed her into the room, held her down and sexually assaulted her.

Faiello attracted notoriety in 1982, when he testified in the contract killing trial of William "Eggy" Prosdocimo. Faiello, an admitted drug dealer, testified against Prosdocimo for ordering the death of Thomas Sacco of Dormont.
