The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is proud to present the 65th Annual Western Pennsylvania Spelling Bee. The event will take place on Saturday, March 14, 2015, at the Charles L. Sewall Center on Robert Morris University’s campus. The winner of this event will receive an all-expense paid trip to represent our region at the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C., in May 2015.

How to enroll
In order for a student to participate in the Western Pa. Spelling Bee, his or her school must enroll with the Scripps National Spelling Bee by the deadline on Wednesday, October 15, 2014. Schools can enroll by visiting www.spellingbee.com and paying the $130 entry fee. The fee for an individual home school family that is not part of a home school association is $90. Enrollment at the Scripps website will also serve as registration for the Western Pa. Spelling Bee.

School eligibility
To enroll, a school must be part of the Post-Gazette’s spelling bee territory which includes the following counties: Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Bedford, Blair, Butler, Cambria, Cameron, Clarion, Clearfield, Crawford, Elk, Fayette, Forest, Greene, Indiana, Jefferson, Lawrence, McKean, Mercer (except the city of Sharon), Potter, Somerset, Venango, Warren, Washington and Westmoreland. *The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette sponsors only the Huntingdon School District within Huntingdon County

Student eligibility
Each enrolled school can send one (1) representative to the Western Pa. Spelling Bee. Students must be in fourth through eighth grade to participate. Schools are encouraged, but not required, to hold a school-wide Spelling Bee by February 14, 2015, to choose their representative. Please note: Students from a school that is not registered with the Scripps National Spelling Bee organization WILL NOT be permitted to participate in the Western Pa. Spelling Bee. Benefits of enrollment
In addition to satisfying the eligibility requirements to send one student to the Western Pa. Spelling Bee, enrollment earns a school everything needed to conduct a Spelling Bee, such as study materials for students, a Pronouncers Guide for teachers, rules and certificates. Important dates
Oct. 15, 2014 ‐ Deadline to enroll your school at www.spellingbee.com and due date for the $130 enrollment fee. Your enrollment also registers your school with the Post-Gazette for the Western Pa. Spelling Bee.

Dec. 12, 2014 ‐ Late-enrollment deadline, subject to $75 late fee after October 15, 2014

Feb. 14, 2015 ‐ Deadline to submit the name of one (1) student who will represent your school at the Western Pa. Spelling Bee. Visit your school’s log-in page at www.spellingbee.com to register your speller.

March 04, 2015 ‐ Schools and participating students will be notified about their specific start time for the Western Pa. Spelling Bee.
