Penguins Stevens joins Penguins' radio booth

Wednesday, September 25, 2002

By Dejan Kovacevic, Post-Gazette Sports Writer

For 14 years in the NHL, Kevin Stevens made his living near the net.

Now, he will do so on the Net.

Over the air, too.

The Penguins will announce Friday that Stevens will join their broadcast team for the 2002-03 season, working as Mike Lange's color commentator for the five or six games that Lange will do on radio only. His first game in the booth will be Saturday's preseason game against the Columbus Blue Jackets at Mellon Arena. It is on the radio at WBGG-AM (970) and on the Internet at http://www.pensnet.com.

Stevens, 37, has not announced his retirement as a player, although he hasn't played since leaving the Penguins in January. A key figure in the Penguins' Stanley Cup championships in 1991-92, he has 329 goals and 397 assists in 874 NHL games.
