City police arrest noted graffiti writer 'Mook'

Monday, March 03, 2003

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Pittsburgh police arrested Michael Monack, the South Side graffiti writer known as "Mook," shortly before 5 a.m. yesterday as he painted graffiti in the Armstrong Tunnel.

According to KDKA-TV, police officers caught Monack, 20, in the act and had to chase him and three juveniles onto the 10th Street Bridge. Monack has been charged with criminal mischief and conspiracy.

Monack has been in trouble before for defacing bridges and Port Authority trolleys.

As "Mook," he became notorious a couple of years ago after he taunted city workers by placing his tag in hard-to-reach public places.
