Pittsburgh homicides: The city's 2001 victims, so far

Jan. 17 -- Jamar Darby, 20: William Daniels of Stanton Avenue and Nicamor Andrada of McKeesport say Darby tried to rob them near Darby's apartment on Whiteside Road. Police say drugs were involved. Daniels and Andrada are free on $15,000 bond and awaiting trial.

Feb. 10 -- Bryan Scott Patterson, 43: Police say Patterson propositioned Kenneth Saunders. Saunders reacted by shooting Patterson. Saunders was convicted of third-degree murder and sentenced to 20 to 40 years in prison.

March 24 -- Ernest Stewart, 19, of Garfield encountered Demetrius "Meaty" Murrell in Todd's Bar on Centre Avenue. Police say a witness told them Murrell believed Stewart had robbed Murrell's brother and that Murrell pulled a gun and shot Stewart.

May 9 -- William "Ricky" Ricardo Ghafoor, 48: Rashad Hefflin, 21, of Elmore Square, faced off with Ghafoor after a minor car accident. Hefflin got a gun and shot Ghafoor, police said.

May 16 -- Thomasina Brown, 44, and Carmen Collins, 37, neighbors on Whiteside Road, died when a feud that had repeatedly flared up for more than a year ended with Collins being shot by Brown. Police then shot Brown.

May 20 -- Alonzo Bowles, 27, and Travis T. Jemison, 21, both of the Hill, died when Kenneth Arnold shot them as they sat in a car at a gas station, police said. Arnold had previously shot and wounded Bowles when Bowles resisted Arnold's attempt to rob him.

July 9 -- Raymond Germany, 23, of Kelly Avenue, Wilkinsburg, was found shot to death at an apartment building on Francis Street. On July 27, police charged Terrance Jones, 26, of the Hill.


Feb. 12 -- Jamie Daniels, 21, of Jucunda Street, Knoxville, was struck at least twice by gunfire as he drove across the Smithfield Street Bridge. The car was registered to his passenger, Michael Eugene Cheatom, 21, of Knoxville. No arrests.

March 17 -- Jeffrey Baldwin, 30, was shot while sitting in his car outside an Allentown bar. Police arrested Kenneth Lampkin, 30. Both were from Wilkinsburg.

April 3 -- Chad Hogben, 28, and Rick Primonato, 44: Police say the men were killed when Emanuel Smith, 18, of Allentown, and Brandon Johnson, 19, of Beltzhoover, shot the two in Hogben's bedroom in Beechview. Police believe it was drug-related.

May 5 -- Darnell A. Harris, 22, was shot in the neck at Bolivar Way and Chalfont Street in Beltzhoover at 8:20 a.m. No arrests.

June 27 -- Charles Daniels, 22, of Ashdale Street, was sitting in a car near a playground on Delmont Avenue in Beltzhoover when a ski-masked gunman ran up, shot him and fled. No arrests.

July 29 -- Eric Kebert, 34, of Washington, Pa., died of a gunshot wound to the chest at 3:10 p.m. in Mercy Hospital. Police say he was robbed during an earlier drug transaction; he later confronted the robber at Climax Street and Curtin Avenue in Beltzhoover and was shot. Police are seeking 18-year-old Raymond Phillips of Climax Street.


Jan. 5 -- Jarreau Lane, 23, was shot as he walked on the North Side. Police believe he was killed in retaliation for the Jan. 2 shooting of Edward Howard, who survived. No arrests.

April 4 -- Edward Lamore, 28, of Summers Street in the Hill District, died in the hospital more than four years after he was shot on North Charles Street. Gene Livingston, 26, who had been charged with attempted homicide, will now stand trial for homicide.

June 27-- Carl Burley, 20, and Mark Hunter, 24, were driving along California Avenue around 1 p.m. when a man in another car opened fire with an AK-47 near Kirkbride Street. Police say it resulted from a feud between groups in the Mexican War Streets and the California-Kirkbride/Manchester areas. No arrests.

May 30 -- Harry T. Silver, 30: Police say his 16-year-old nephew Richard L. Kemper shot Silver twice in the head and then tried to hide his body under a bed at Silver's home.

HOMEWOODFeb. 22 -- John Carter, 22, died of gunshot wounds to the head and upper body behind a building on Fleury Way. No arrests.

April 3 -- Darrell Brown, 50, bled to death after a bullet penetrated both legs. Residents of the 500 block of Multi Way found him about 10 p.m. No arrests.

April 12 -- Edward Gyland Hood, 24, was shot in the head as he sat on the back porch of his sister's home on Hamilton Avenue. No arrests.

April 29 -- Raquel Tilisha Carter, 16, disappeared April 28. Her body was found the next day at the end of Banfield Street. She had been stabbed. No arrests.

July 24 -- Richard Keith, 24: The Brushton Avenue resident was found on Susquehanna Street sprawled near his bicycle. Police said he got in an argument with Tory Conyers, 22, who Keith believed had robbed him.


April 26 -- Tieusha "Tie" Wright, 20: Wright's boyfriend, Richard Morris, 22, of Highland Park, was held for shooting her in the head during an argument at her friend's home in East Liberty.

June 2 -- Michael Shepherd, 21: Police say someone fired a gun into a group of people standing near a Broad Street apartment building. Shepherd, of Wilkinsburg, was found on the ground near the apartment. Case against a suspect was withdrawn.

June 25 -- Robert J. Dixon, 22, of Deary Street, died of gunshot wounds to the head and body at Upland and Lincoln avenues. Packets of heroin were found near him. Police believe Cordell "Cory" Broadus, 19, a neighbor of Dixon's, shot him after an argument.

July 6 -- Eric Paul Lineburg, 25, of Olivant Street, and Wallace Goldston, 26, of Album Street, were shot within hours. Lineburg was shot first in a Paulson Avenue ball field. Goldston -- who denied involvement in the death -- was killed while sitting in his mother's car. No arrests.

June 11 -- Catherine Hairston, 43, and Sean Hairston, 14: Kenneth Hairston, Catherine's husband and Sean's father, is accused of bludgeoning the two and setting the house afire before stabbing himself. He said he was under stress over his upcoming rape trial involving his stepdaughter.

Aug. 2 -- Jewel Upsher, 32, and Dion Bray, 24, died in a drive-by shooting at Penn and Atlantic avenues on the Garfield-Bloomfield border.


Feb. 16 -- Anthony Wilkinson, 42, a native of Charleston, S.C., had been staying at a home on Kearns Avenue. A man arrived, fought with Wilkinson, shot him once and fled. No arrests.


Feb. 25 -- Ann J. Lyle, 62,and her son, Donald, 38, were found shot to death in her apartment on Plummer Street. Police believe it was a murder suicide.

EAST HILLSMarch 28 -- Erik Wright, 28, of Homewood, fought over money with Verona resident Richard Estes in the hallway of an apartment building. Estes, 26, shot Wright, police said.

April 5 -- Ian Smith, 22: Darryl Lawrence, 19, of North Braddock, is charged with shooting Smith when Smith went to visit Lawrence's sister at her East Hills apartment.


Feb. 17 -- David Nied, 27, died March 28 in St. Francis Medical Center in Cranberry from injuries received in a beating outside the after-hours club Kaos near Penn Avenue and Sixth Street. Police arrested three Pittsburgh men, William Rivera, 22; Fernando Martinez, 27; and Oswaldo Martinez, 31.


March 31 -- Jonathan Leonard, 18, was standing in front of his family's house on Monongahela Street when a man shot him with a semi-automatic weapon and ran away. Mario Parker, 19, of Hazelwood, and Charron Miyares, 18, of Braddock, were charged.

Aug. 2 -- Marlon Tucker, 39: Nicodemus Brown, 21, of Hazelwood was arrested in June for shooting and wounding Tucker after an argument, and now he faces a homicide charge. Police said Brown shot Tucker of Hazelwood during an argument that began when Brown visited a juvenile girl who lives at Tucker's home, police said. Tucker died yesterday.
