Janet and Bill Wilbert: Parents of quadruplets born on 9/11

Wednesday, September 11, 2002

By Gary Rotstein, Post-Gazette Staff Writer

Janet and Bill Wilbert plan a quiet day at home today, celebrating the first birthday of quadruplets Alex, Andrew, Katherine and Eric.

The Wilberts, who moved in June from Bridgeville to a larger home in Peters, have their own memories of Sept. 11 -- joyous ones. The safe quartet of births came hours before the parents saw the carnage of the plane hijackings on a television in Magee-Womens Hospital.

There will be plenty of subsequent birthdays to tell the children why all of these special news reports are being issued to commemorate the date of their birth, said Janet Wilbert, 32.

"Becoming a mother of four ... just worrying about how their lives are going to be becomes the main priority. I have to feel optimistic about the future, because I want them to be optimistic."

When people learn when the quads were born, she added, "People still say, 'Oh, something good did come out of that day.' "
