Reel World: Film Revival

Pittsburgh Filmmakers will offer the first revival in 25 years of the American Film Theater series.

These 14 movies were produced in the 1970s and were based on classic stage plays. They featured some of the top actors and directors of the time. Tickets to films in the series were sold on an annual subscription basis.

Filmmakers will offer seven of the films in the series during July and August at the Melwood Screening Room in Oakland. They are:

"The Homecoming," based on the Harold Pinter play and directed by Peter Hall, with Ian Holm and Cyril Cusack (showing Wednesday, Thursday and next Saturday).

"A Delicate Balance," based on the Edward Albee play and directed by Tony Richardson, with Katharine Hepburn, Paul Scofield, Joseph Cotten and Betsy Blair. (July 9-11).

"In Celebration," based on the David Storey play and directed by Lindsay Anderson, with Alan Bates and Brian Cox (July 16-18).

"The Man in the Glass Booth," based on the Robert Shaw play and directed by Arthur Hiller, with Maximilian Schell (July 23-25).

"The Iceman Cometh," based on the Eugene O'Neill play and directed by John Frankenheimer, with Lee Marvin, Bradford Dillman, Robert Ryan and Fredric March (July 30-Aug. 1).

"The Maids," based on the Jean Genet play and directed by Christopher Miles, with Glenda Jackson and Susannah York (Aug. 6-8).

"Galileo," based on the play by Bertholt Brecht and directed by Joseph Losey, with Topol, John Gielgud and Edward Fox. (Aug. 13-15).
