Panelists mixed on Stewart, Jackson cases

Wednesday, January 28, 2004

By Lamont Jones, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

If this month's panelists have predicted accurately, both Martha Stewart and Michael Jackson will be convicted of criminal charges in two of the nation's most highly publicized court cases.

Andrew Freeman, Jim Wang and Joe Kleppick said Stewart will be found guilty of allegations that she lied about why she sold some stock just before its value plunged.

Jim said Stewart seems to have an "arrogant" attitude that "might start to work against her," although he predicted the domestic diva would "go down fighting."

Although all four panelists said they believe Stewart is guilty, Brenna Brucker predicted she will win the court battle and that her reputation will rebound.

Jackson's case is another story.

Andrew was the only panelist who felt Jackson would be acquitted of charges that he molested a child at Neverland, his vast California ranch/amusement park/zoo.

Joe was the only panelist who said he believes the superstar is guilty. Other panelists said Jackson's eccentricity and similar accusations brought against him in 1993 may make him appear guilty.

"People are quick to judge because he's different from the norm," said Jim.

Joe wants Jackson's impending trial to result in a prison term.

"Hopefully for a long time," added Joe.
