SHINGLES

Also known in some college dorms as "bark," this rich confection is perfect on a stressful night of studying.

    2 packages saltine crackers
    1/2 pound butter (2 sticks)
    1 cup brown sugar
    12-ounce bag semi-sweet chocolate chips
    1 cup sliced almonds

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Line a cookie sheet with saltine crackers, side by side, salt side up.

In a small saucepan, melt butter over medium heat, then add the brown sugar. Stir until the sugar dissolves and starts to bubble and foam, about 2 minutes.

Pour the butter-sugar mixture over the saltines and bake in the oven for 4 minutes.

Remove and then sprinkle the chocolate chips on top and place in the oven for about 2 minutes, just so the chocolate softens. Spread the chocolate evenly across and crumble the almonds on top.

Allow to cool for at least an hour in the refrigerator and then break into large pieces.
