Toasted Mushroom Sandwiches

This is a simulation --or perhaps even the original -- of the famous mushroom sandwiches sold at May Market in Mellon Park.

8 to 12 ounces fresh, chopped mushrooms
1 tablespoon butter
8-ounce package Philadelphia cream cheese, softened
1 generous tablespoon fresh lemon juice
1 teaspoon mayonnaise
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
Homestyle bread

Saute mushrooms in butter. Drain. Mix other ingredients with a fork. Spread filling into homestyle bread and toast. (We did it on a lightly buttered griddle.) Makes 8 to 10 sandwiches.
