Here's a warm and inviting dessert for the cool autumn evenings ahead. Microwaved Maple-Filled Pears teams a sweet sauce made up of raisins, nuts, maple syrup and spices with juicy Bartlett pears.
The pears are microwaved until almost tender, the sauce is then poured over the pears -- the pears are returned to the microwave until cooked tender.
This eye-catching dessert takes about eight minutes to prepare.
If you want to make this dish even more stunning, use a combination of dark and golden raisins and a dollop of freshly whipped cream.
MICROWAVED MAPLE-FILLED PEARS
1/4 cup raisins
1/4 cup chopped nuts
1/4 cup maple syrup, see note
1/2 teaspoon lemon peel
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
3 fresh pears, pared, halved and cored
Combine raisins, nuts, syrup, lemon peel and cinnamon -- set aside.
Arrange pears, cut-side down, in microwave-safe baking dish. Cover with plastic wrap. Microwave on high for five minutes. Turn pears over and spoon maple syrup mixture into center of each pear. Replace cover and microwave on high three to four minutes longer or until pears are tender. Makes 6 servings.
Note: We suggest using real maple syrup, not maple-flavored syrup or pancake syrup.
