5 egg yolks
5 1/2 tablespoons sugar
8 ounces mascarpone
2 cups heavy cream, whipped
1 1/2 tablespoons confectioners' sugar
5 cups good, strong coffee
2 to 3 tablespoons sugar
Package of savoiardi (ladyfinger-like cookies available in Italian specialty stores)

In a large bowl, combine eggs and sugar. Mix well with an electric beater until mixture looks "white." Add mascarpone and combine well.

With a spatula, fold whipped cream into egg and sugar mixture until no streaks remain.

Place coffee in a bowl with 2 to 3 tablespoons of sugar. Stir to dissolve. Dip savoiardi in coffee and place in bottom of casserole or trifle dish. Make layers, alternating savoiardi with the whipped cream mixture, ending with the cream mixture. Chill overnight. Shake cocoa powder over the surface and serve. Serves 10.
