2 1/2 cups flour
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 tablespoon vanilla
3 to 4 tablespoons orange juice
1 cup butter, softened
In a large bowl, combine all cookie ingredients. Beat at low speed until well mixed, 1 to 2 minutes. In most cases you can use this dough immediately. If it is too soft, wrap in wax paper and refrigerate until firm.
Heat oven to 400 degrees.
Roll out dough on well-floured surface to 1/4-to-1/2-inch thickness. Cut out with your favorite cutters. Place 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheets (or on parchment paper-lined cookie sheets). Bake for 6 to 10 minutes or until edges are lightly browned. Remove immediately and cool completely. Frost and decorate cooled cookies.
