This is the perfect mother-made fuel for the trip back to college after spring break. You can bake the brownies in a pan lined with aluminum foil (dull side up and grease the foil), remove the baked brownies from the pan, then cut and wrap them for the road.
1/3 cup butter, melted
1 cup brown sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/8 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup nuts
1 (6-ounce) package chocolate chips
In medium bowl, mix melted butter and brown sugar. Add egg and vanilla. Mix in dry ingredients, then nuts. Batter will be thick. Spread into a greased 8- or 9-inch square pan. Sprinkle chocolate chips over batter. Bake in 350-degree oven for 22 to 30 minutes, or until brown and the edges come away from the side of the pan. (The chips sink during baking.)
