Amber's mom, Sherry, taught her how to cook when the seventh-grader was about 9 years old. "The first thing I learned was how to make a scrambled egg. Then I learned how to make cookies," said Amber.

Amber and her mom came up with the chili recipe below. "We like to make it when we get the craving for chili," she said.

Amber suggests to other cooking kids, "Always wear an apron."

Chili

1 pound ground meat
1 can pork and beans
1 small can tomato sauce
1 small can tomato paste
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
1/2 teaspoon oregano
1/4 teaspoon chili powder
1/4 teaspoon red pepper powder
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon hot sauce

Brown the ground meat in skillet until no longer pink. Add the remaining ingredients and simmer. Amber likes to eat this chili with crackers or garlic bread.
