Slivers of smoked ham or pork are a flavorful garnish for steamed Chinese cabbage (bok choy or pak choy), broccoli, carrots, scallions, snow peas and other winter vegetables. If you prefer, stir-fry the vegetables, using a teaspoon of sesame or peanut oil, just until crisp-tender.
2 ounces smoked ham or Chinese barbecued pork
4 cups assorted fresh vegetables, cut into bite-sized pieces
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 teaspoon dark sesame oil
Slice ham into slivers; set aside. Steam vegetables until just tender. Transfer vegetables to warm platter; garnish with ham slivers. Combine soy sauce and sesame oil; drizzle mixture over vegetables and serve immediately. Serves 4 to 6.
