Graham crackers to cover bottom of pan
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup margarine
1 cup milk
1 egg
1 cup graham cracker crumbs
1 cup coconut
1 cup chopped nuts (we used walnuts)
Additional crumbs, if desired

Topping:
1/4 cup butter or margarine
2 tablespoons milk
2 cups confectioners sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla.

For bars: Place a layer of graham crackers in bottom of 9-by-13-inch pan. Boil sugar, margarine and milk for a few minutes (we did this in the microwave); beat in egg. (Stir well; this cooks the egg.) Add 1 cup cracker crumbs, coconut and nuts to mixture. Spread filling over whole crackers. If desired, sprinkle more cracker crumbs on top.

For topping: Mix ingredients and spread on top of cookies, which are more like cake. Because the crust is gooey, they are best served with a fork. Store in refrigerator.

Makes 8 to 10 servings.
