Laurin's parents both like to cook: her dad the "main meal foods" and her mom, desserts. They have passed on their enjoyment of cooking to Laurin, and she created this cookie recipe. "I tried it out on my neighbors and family -- even my teacher at school -- and everyone liked it," she said.
Our taste testers melted Hershey's Kisses instead of chocolate chips, using 1/2-cup of kisses instead of Laurin's 1/3-cup of chocolate morsels.
Choco Delights
2/3 cup butter
1/3 cup sugar
2 egg yolks
2 egg whites
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup finely chopped walnuts
1 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/3 cup chocolate morsels
Mix butter and sugar until fluffy. Add the egg yolks, vanilla and salt; beat until blended.
Add flour, mixing well. Shape in 3/4-inch balls; dip in egg whites and dip top of cookie in the nuts.
Place 1 inch apart on greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 to 17 minutes.
Cool slightly; remove from pan and cool on rack.
Melt 1/3 cup chocolate morsels, drizzle on top of the cookies. Let chocolate harden and serve.
Makes about 3 dozen cookies.
