George's Barbecued Green Beans
2 15-ounce cans of green beans, French or regular cut 8 strips bacon, diced into half-inch pieces 1/2 cup ketchup 1/2 cup brown sugar Small onion, diced (optional)
Brown the bacon and onion. When brown, add ketchup and sugar. Simmer until dark brown; sugar will caramelize. Put the green beans in a baking dish with the water from one can of green beans. Pour the hot mixture over the beans. Bake uncovered at 325 degrees for 1 hour.
