Brown Sugar Cookies

1 cup butter or margarine, softened
1 cup packed brown sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/8 teaspoon salt
Nuts to taste

Cream butter and brown sugar. Add egg and vanilla and beat well. Mix together dry ingredients and add, combining well. Add nuts. (We used 1 cup chopped walnuts.) Drop by teaspoonfuls onto greased cookie sheet. Bake in 350-degree oven for 6 to 8 minutes. (We baked for 10 minutes on insulated cookie sheets. The cookies will puff up, then flatten.) Makes 4 dozen. (We used a small cookie scoop.)
