Karen Christman of Children's Hospital in Oakland doubles the recipe on the back of the Nestles package. She substitutes Crisco shortening for butter.
4 1/4 to 4 1/2 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
2 teaspoons salt
2 cups shortening
1 1/2 cups white sugar
1 1/2 cups brown sugar
4 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla
2 (12-ounce) packages chocolate chips
Mix flour, baking powder and salt together.
In a separate bowl, mix shortening, sugar, eggs and vanilla. Add flour mixture and chocolate chips.
Spoon a heaping tablespoon of cookie dough onto baking sheets and bake about 10 minutes in 375-degree oven. Cookies should be soft when they are taken out of the oven. Double batch makes about 36 cookies.
Note: We let the cookies sit for about 1 minute before removing them from the cookie sheet.
