Butter Pecan Cookies

1 cup butter
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon almond extract
2 1/2 cups flour, plus 2 tablespoons
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cream of tartar
1 cup pecans, halved

Cream butter and powdered sugar. Add egg, vanilla and almond extract. Beat well. Add flour, baking soda, and cream of tartar. Mix in well by hand or with mixer. Roll into small balls, no larger than 1 inch, and place on ungreased cookie sheet. Place a pecan half in middle of ball. Place pecan pieces on top of cookie and press down slightly. Bake in a 350-degree oven for 12 minutes or until edges are tan and middle is set. Cookies will spread out.

Makes 2 1/2 dozen.
