1 cup white sugar
3/4 cup butter (or margarine)
1/4 cup molasses
1 egg
2 cups flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon cloves
1 teaspoon ginger
Mix sugar, butter, molasses and egg. Sift together dry ingredients. Add to first mixture and blend well. Thoroughly chill; overnight is about right. Roll into balls and roll in sugar. Bake at 315 degrees for about 10 minutes.
