Chuck Ellis, formerly of Churchill and now living in Dalian, China, used to make this recipe when he was at The Swamp (University of Florida in Gainesville). He claims to miss the Squirrel Hill Tunnel and, along with his recipe, sent the following joke: "Do you know why Pittsburghers slow down in the tunnels? 'Cause we're just not sure they're open on the other end. Once we see the daylight, we speed up again."
1/2 of 18-ounce jar grape jelly
1/2 of 8-ounce jar brown mustard
1 bag of Smokies (we used Hillshire Farms L'il Smokies)
In a crock pot, heat jelly and mustard until hot, stirring occasionally. Add Smokies and carry to the party. Bring toothpicks. Can easily be doubled for a crowd.
