Description

In 1802, Baron Dettmar Basse purchased 10,000 acres at 25 cents each, in what is now known as the Zelienople-Harmony area. He planned a town and named it after his eldest daughter, Zelie.

Zelienople was incorporated in 1840 and the arrival of the railroad in the 1870s led to more diverse industry beyond agriculture.

Today, the town has about 4,000 residents.
