Allentown is a city neighborhood just south of Downtown Pittsburgh.
During the 1860's, the firm of McLain & Maple purchased the Allen and Beltzhoover farms and laid out plots and streets. German immigrant millworkers bought lots there, building houses similar to those they had known in their homeland. Today, single family frame and brick homes abound in Allentown, many of which have spectacular views of the Downtown skyscrapers.
The business district is an three-block section of Warrington Avenue featuring buildings rich with 19th Century style.
