The Brashear Association was established in 1917 as a living memorial to John Alfred Brashear (1840-1920), Pittsburgh's renowned self-taught scientist and astronomer. The association originally operated a collection of settlement houses.

Today, they offer a full spectrum of programs and services that span from infancy to the elderly, from community service to community action.
