Located near Slippery Rock University, the town of Slippery Rock is home to 5,000 people in rural Butler County.

The municipal center is an attractive contemporary building housing offices for officials, a senior center and community gathering space.

Settled in 1796 and incorporated in 1800, the town was a center for the coal industry for generations. Today, it is known primarily for being near Slippery Rock University, a public university with one of the largest campuses in western Pennsylvania, occupying 611 acres.
