Founded in 1890 the Crafton Volunteer Fire Department's mission is to provide fire, rescue, medical response and public services to the communities of Crafton, Rosslyn Farms and Thornburg in lieu of a paid fire department.
All three are small suburbs west of Pittsburgh. Crafton, with a population 7,000 people, is the largest. It was named after frontier attorney James S. Craft.
Inside the department's simple, contemporary building is a fire hall that can comfortably seat up to 125 people and is ideal for birthday and graduation parties, baby and bridal showers, funeral wakes, meetings and fundraising events.
Varies per event; call for information.
A lot is located nearby behind the municipal building at 100 Stotz Avenue.
