Steel City Improv Theater --- also known as "The SCIT" --- is home to the most dynamic and cutting edge improv, sketch and musical improv shows and classes in the region.
The SCIT focuses on longform improvisational theater in which a one act play or series of sketches are performed spontaneously, usually based on an audience suggestion.
Located in the lower section of the Madison Avenue Meeting House, the funky basement blackbox fifty seat theater offers up several shows every Friday and Saturday nights, and a free longform improv show on their "Totally Free Monday". Along with their shows, the SCIT holds improv classes with teachers trained in New York, and often holds workshops with guest teachers from New York and Chicago.
The Madison Avenue Meeting House is a former church at the corner of Madison Avenue and Tripoli Street in the North Side's historicaly rich East Deutschtown neighborhood. Now owned and operated by the Community Alliance Of Spring Garden/East Deutschtown, it is a handsome redbrick building whose interior is illuminated with beautiful stain glass windows.
