Founded in 1880, the Merrick Art Gallery is the only art museum located in rural Beaver County and features examples of romantic, realistic and impressionistic art by prominent American and European artists.
The museum was the vision of industrialist Edward Dempster Merrick (1832-1911). It is housed in a former train station, rich with the details of Victorian and Edwardian eras including tin ceilings and period fixtures. Among the museum's many interesting items is a piano once played by legendary composer Stephen Foster (1826-1864).
